UKISAR team members have successfully completed intensive Cold Weather Search & Survival Training, reinforcing their ability to operate in some of the world’s harshest environments. The training, held in Sweden, provided participants with first-hand experience of extreme cold conditions while honing their survival skills and search techniques.
Throughout the course, team members navigated vast, frozen landscapes using both traditional map reading and GPS navigation techniques. They adapted to new wide-area search protocols and executed casualty evacuation exercises designed to simulate real-life emergency scenarios. Setting up and optimizing a Base of Operations (BoO) was a key focus, ensuring that teams could establish an effective hub for search and rescue missions in challenging conditions.
The training also covered essential survival techniques, including cold weather preparedness, tracking, shelter building, fire lighting, and signaling. Participants undertook search operations in snow and ice, testing their ability to work efficiently in freezing temperatures and unpredictable terrain. The program consisted of two days of environmental training followed by four days of field-based exercises, pushing team members to their limits in a highly realistic setting.
By successfully completing this demanding course, UKISAR has once again demonstrated its commitment to maintaining world-class search and rescue capabilities. The skills and experience gained will further enhance the team’s readiness for international deployments, ensuring they can provide life-saving assistance in even the most extreme conditions.
